How To Play Gakuran

You can't just click play — Gakuran gates entry behind four account requirements set by the developers, and if your account misses any of them the game won't let you in. You need Roblox's 16+ age verification, a Roblox account that's at least 7 days old, membership in the official Gakuran Roblox group (group ID 416091513), and at least 5 Roblox friends.

These requirements exist to cut down on alt accounts and bots, so there's no way around them — if you can't load in, checking these four things is the first thing to do. Joining the official group is the step most new players forget.

Once you're in, you pick your gender freely and choose your first name, but almost everything else about your character is rolled at random: your surname, ethnicity, height, fighting style, accessories, hairstyle, and hair colour. There are 6 ethnicities (Japanese, African, European, Middle Eastern, Indian, and Latinx) and 10 fighting styles, and ethnicity affects your height odds — African and European have the best height chances, Indian the lowest.

Your fighting style is the roll that matters most for combat, and styles are tiered by rarity: Basic is common (59%), the Uncommon tier (Karate, Muay Thai, Slugger) is 30%, the Epic tier (Boxing) is 10%, the Legendary tier (Capoeira, Wrestling, Kure, Hakari) is just 1%, and the ??? tier (Ali) is 0.075%. If you don't like what you rolled, you can reroll to get new stats. Rerolls cost roughly 2 Robux each, which is the game's main spending point, but you can also get free rerolls by redeeming codes — every active code currently rewards free reroll tokens. Redeeming the codes on our Codes page is the cheapest way to keep rerolling toward a rare style without spending Robux.

Combat runs on light and heavy attacks. Light attacks (M1) chain up to a 4-hit combo, with the fourth hit acting as a stronger knockback finisher. Heavy attacks (M2) hit about 70% harder than a single M1 and can't be blocked — they can only be parried, dodged, or interrupted by an M1.

Defense is built on posture (your shared block-and-sprint stamina), dodging (a short-cooldown move with invincibility frames that currently costs no stamina), and parrying (a perfectly-timed block that takes zero damage and briefly stuns your opponent). Run out of posture while blocking and your guard breaks, leaving you stunned. To leave a fight, the "mb" system lets you exit combat early once the right conditions are met. The developers have now published the exact multipliers behind the height system, so you don't have to guess. At minimum height you get 5.70 M1 reach, 4.70 M2 reach, 0.85× damage, 1.15× attack speed, and 3.40 M1 width. At maximum height those become 6.30 M1 reach, 5.30 M2 reach, 1.15× damage, 0.85× attack speed, and 4.60 M1 width. So the whole spread between the shortest and tallest possible character is ±15% on both damage and swing speed.

The board's own takeaway is worth repeating because it's counter-intuitive: the real benefit of height isn't the reach, which only moves about half a stud — it's the hitbox face growing, giving you noticeably more lateral and vertical coverage on every swing. Being short pays you back in faster swings and shorter combo-reset timers, which is why short builds are recommended for the fastest styles. Base health is 100 HP and only shifts meaningfully at the extremes.

Not every part of the map allows fighting. Greenzones are areas where combat is switched off automatically, and if you're combat-tagged you physically cannot walk in — an invisible wall stops you at the boundary. The board currently lists four: classrooms, the music room, the Gakumart counter, and the infirmary.

That makes them a genuine tactical tool rather than just flavour. If a fight is going badly, a greenzone is a hard exit no one can follow you into — but the same rule means you can't chase someone in either, and you can't duck inside mid-fight while still carrying a combat tag. The infirmary is doubly worth knowing: it heals you 3× faster after a fight.

Yen used to be unearnable — you spawned with a random amount and the only way to get more was another player transferring it to you through the YenApp. That changed with the job system. Open the Indeed app on your phone, pick one of the available job postings, and submit an application, then keep an eye on the clock so you know when your shift starts.

Gakumart sits just outside Nishikata High School. When your shift begins, head over, step behind the counter, and press E to change into the Gakumart uniform. Stay inside the store for the duration and you'll earn yen; when the shift ends you're switched back into your original outfit automatically. Right now yen's only real use is buying drinks from the vending machines, and each drink has exactly 10 uses before it's empty.
